Thaxters of Holt – Aldi – Demolition of Building Delayed Again.

Some of the demolition machinery had been moved onto the site a couple of weeks ago and it looked as if we would finally be a step closer to getting an affordable grocery store in Holt. However, that did not happen.

On the 16th July the applicant had submitted a request for Condition 34 of the planning decision to be discharged.

Planning Decision PF/14/1373 – Condition 34
No development shall take place within the site until the applicant has secured the implementation of a programme of historic building recording in accordance with a written scheme of investigation which shall have been submitted to and approved in writing by the Local Planning Authority.
In this instance the programme of historic building recording will comprise a photographic survey of the structure for which a brief can be obtained from Norfolk County Historic Environment Services, Union House, Gressenhall, Dereham, NR20 4DR, 01362 869293.
Reason:
In the interests of recording and preserving items of archaeological interest, in accordance with Policy EN 8 of the adopted North Norfolk Core Strategy.

As of this morning, it would seem that the Case Officer at NNDC still has this particular paperwork buried somewhere on his desk. Until Condition 34 is discharged by the delegated officer, the developer cannot legally start any demolition work on site.
